Day 9 Hokitika to Westport (141 km)

Day 9
Day 9

Ah Jules, What have you missed?

Alison and Fran

Today was the day we had hoped our Christchurch friends may have been able to join us.  Alas, the EQ shook that idea to pieces.  This was also your ride Jules. What a day, 141 km and 6 hours in the saddle. We had our first drop in rider today. Fran (pictured) appeared just south of Graymouth on her trusty Mountain bike. She had read about us in the paper and decided to ride 20 km or so.

Enjoying the view

The day was stunning by NZ standards. The views as we rode north were spectacular, clear skies and flat seas.

After 100 km and a number of coastal ranges, the afternoon heat started to take its toll. Our weary troop was glad to arrive in Westport. Basil’s Backpackers tonight though I haven’t found Manuel.
