Day 7 & 8 Rest Day Fox Glacier to Hokitika( 153 km)

Day 8
Day 8

Still moving North!

Rain, rain, rain:  we all slept in and took an easy start to the day.  Forecast was for showers to clear and, as Fox to Hokitika is expected to be longer, it was decided to knock off the steep 23 km to Franz Joseph in the afternoon. We did, but it was wet, steep and slippery on the unsealed sections. (Bardie knows how much Hazel likes steep descents)

Yeah Alison first puncture on tour.

Saturday’s ride from Franz Joseph was our best yet. The group rode long distances as a rolling group, each taking 5km turns at the front. Our average was up and the day was warm. Aliison scored the first puncture of the tour (drinks all round at Blenheim).

Tasting Hokitika's Wildfood

Our riders arrived in Hokitika around 2pm. The annual Wildfoods Festival was in full swing with about five thousand extra people in town.  Another big day tomorrow.

  3. That ice cream looks about all we could manage on your trip so far! Congratulations ,Hazel, you are indeed a legend and inspiration to us all. We would like to have been there for those decents, did you get off, like I advised you to?Your hands must have hurt trying to brake in those conditions. Thanks Pete for the great reports.Bardie
