Day 3 Queenstown to Wanaka ( 69 km )

Over the Crown Range – Easy!

What a difference a day makes. Our intrepid band of riders left Queenstown at to a cool morning with clearing skies. Forty minutes to the turnoff, ( see pix ) then the fun began. Up the first switchback and up the next, with riders spreading out and the climb still rising, the scenery was inspiring. 12km of climbing, sweaty bodies, burning quads, but still the mighty Yaris and I climbed. Eventually, we reached the top and waited for the riders. Up they came one by one. Of course Hazel missed the top and was halfway down the other side freezing with the wind chill before we caught her up and dressed her.

We stopped for a lovely morning tea at the beautiful Cardrona Hotel. The last 30km were a downhill run. Matterhorn Lodge is great. BBQ for tea.  How good was that!!

  1. You look a tad cold Haze! 12kms of going up doesn't sound much fun to me. By the way, we're catching up with Maree and Rodger in a couple of weeks in Bkk.

  2. Well done Hazel, typical that you were up and over the top before they could find you, you are a champ. Sounds like Pete has a big job as support crew too.
